1.9D 1Y - are they all the same?

Hi guys, me again.....

It turns out my ancient 1Y engine is knackered, so I thought just before I decide to give up on the girl and chop it in for a more reliable one, I'd search for an engine. There is one on ebay from a caddy, billed as a 1.9D and only £300.... My old 1Y is from a SEAT, but just curious will absolutely ALL 1Y;s irrespective of year bolt in? The caddy engine is from a 2001 model...

Thanks in advance for any clues.... :ok

all i can say on this one, is do not spend £300 on one thats been in a van (100mph flat out all day) vanman
that is just expensive.£150 is right for a good one. visit a few breakers and look at the engine before spending anything. advertise for one in the local free ads rag. you might just be surprised!

They arent all the same. Some have "1.9D" stamped on them and some have "1.9TD". However, unless your sticking a turbo on - it doesnt matter.

Also, fuel pumps vary - but as you already have a 1Y fitted that doesnt matter as you can use your current fuel pump if the one you get with the new engine doesnt make sense to you. However, i think they can all be used, but some require some striping of electrics...

So, in general, all 1Y's can be used in your van if you dont have a turbo on it.

Thanks guys. I'll keep hunting, did find one from a Mk3 Golf a bit cheaper, and wont have been 'white van man-ed' as you say ;-)
