More bank holiday fun, I have got a water leak on what appears to be the seal between the right hand head and the block. I am tempted to just bite the bullet and treat her to a new engine as at present she burns a little oil and we have a few exhaust issues that will require drills and stud extractors. The mileage is at 130000 on a 86 1.9 watercooled petrol. Volkspares do an exchange unit for £1200, am I being lazy and going the wrong way on an easy fix. Any ideas apprieciated.

Cripes, 130,000 is a fair old mileage. Even if you sort out the problem there will be wear and tear throughout the engine and its a lot of work just to cure a leak. If you can afford it, buy a new engine.
