AAZ replacement engine

I have a 87 Multivan with an AAZ engine conversion. I am planning an open ended trip around Europe in the van but think the engine could do with replacement before I go. I have looked at VEGE as a possible solution but they have so many different AAZ engines listed I'm not sure which one would be best? All I know about my present engine is that I think it came from a Passat.
