Can anyone help, i have just purchased a T25 Holdsworth High Flyer 1982.
However during the 4 hour drive home i virtually froze to death.. I could not get heat out of any of the vents? On inspection today i noticed next to the engine compartment was a hose that is about 2inched wide that is not connected to anything, could this be from the heat exchange unit??

Is it Aircooled? then yes it may be part of the interior heating system to be honest the Aircooled heater is pretty poor even when its working you might want to fit an auxiliary heater like and eberspacher or a propex

You need to tell us what engine it has/supposed to be in the back of your van so we have a better idea...

BUT we will assume its an Aircooled (either 1.6 or 2L) If the system is in very good condition and fitted correctly with no leaks/missing parts etc, they can work quite well.. BUT as its 28 years old and had several bodging owners/garages its likely that lots of bits have rotted away or been removed..

the "2" pipe in the engine bay" could be part of the heating or intake system so we cant say.. A cople of nice pics of your engine bay would at least help us a bit...

Also let us know what part of the universe you are in as there may be a member or specialist near you..

The heating in my 2 litre air cooled is fine, in fact it gets too hot most of the time, so if everything is there and fitted corectly you will get more than enough heat...

Thanks All, it is a 2litre Aircooled, however i do know that 2000miles ago it had a re-con lump fitted, i am wondering if the garage that did this have not re-connected all pipes etc?? Although the garage that did this was a VW specialist.

I will take some photos today of the engine bay and previous mentioned hose, i am trying to get my hands on a Haynes for the T25, anyone got any ideas where these can be purchased, i cant imagine the local Halfords having them on the shelf...

Try and get underneath and take some picture of the fronts of the heat exchangers and round that area...you will see nothing from above in the engine bay

you probably haven't had much experience with the Aircooled heaters so here's a general discription of how they work there's usually a electric fan in the engine bay that blows air through a tube which is connected to your heat exchanger (heat exchanger consists of fins fitted to the outside of your front exhaust pipes and covered with an airtight shrowd) where hot air is blown out into another tube that is connected to the heating channels in your van. When connected and air tight they're quite effective. unfortunetley they're rarely airtight and if you have oil dripping onto your exhaust you have oily exhaust fumes blowing into your van
