Haven't been here for AGES!!

I have a new vehicle I'm attempting to convert, and am looking for some hinges I've heard about. They are for pull down beds and that sort of thing - apparently they sort of lift out then down... can't explain it very well!

What I want to do is put a bed across the front seats. Now obviously I can't have the bed down all the time as there won't be room for me to sit in the seat! So I want to be able to lift the bed up, hinged at the front of the van, but so the front edge also comes down a few inches too, while the back edge goes right up to the ceiling and comes down level.

If anyone knows what I mean and knows about these hinges can you please let me know? If no one knows what I'm going on about also let me know and I'll try to draw a picture!

Dear Tee, I can't really grasp what you are asking but my best suggestion goes like this as far as cab bunks go......Let me take you back to the early 90's when I used to team up with various English and continental sidecar race teams who were well versed in all aspects of cheap channel travel, smuggling contraband and making the most of every available sleeping space in a vehicle.

My suggestion to you based on what I slept all those years ago is a simple ply wood board that was used as the bed base (if kids were to use it 4mm ply would do), this piece of ply would have to be large enough to fit as close to the head lining in the cab area as possible when not in use.

It would be secured in each corner by the use of a metal 'O' ring which would slide up and down a length of chrome shower tubing fitted to each corner of the cab, obviously secured at each end,,,,,the bed would be either held up against the headlining when NOT in use and secured by the use of 'R' clips,,,,,and when in use it would be held similarly with the aid of the 'R' clips....

This may not suit you if you are very tall, but I think it is the simplest solution to the cab bunk conundrum if you are a short bloke like my good self......

Regards

Hmm... I actually understand what you mean!! That in itself is a feat for me

Good idea, and if I can't get these hinge thingies I'll have a think about that.

The reason I wanted the hinges was so that the bed can lower down at the front (where the windscreen is) as well as at the back (nearest the body), but obviously tuck right up out of the way when not in use. This would in theory give me a bit more headroom all the way across the bed instead of having it go into nothing at the front.

They must be kind of double hinges somehow... maybe a kind of Z shape arrangement?
