Saga continues... paranoia?

Hi, Hope you are all well and enjoying the weekend!

Further to previous posts about my 1.6 TD (1988) camper and some issues I have been having with regards to smoking when starting and a rather noisey engine, I have posted a video clip taken this morning of starting from cold.

See: http://s630.photobucket.com/albums/uu22 ... dstart.flv

Sorry it's a few secnds before the engine starts up, waiting for glow plug light.

Am I being paranoid? there seems to be a lot of smoke.... I have already had the glow plugs changed, injectors cleaned, full service etc. Doesn't seem to have got much better...

There seems to be 'shuddering' at low revs, but also a distinct knocking noise, but I have to remember its a fairly old motor, done 112k on the clock..

Should I start thinking of getting a recon put in? bloody money pit.... ! (why do we do it...?!)
Any advice?

Hi James,

Doesn't appear to be using much really, there is a small oil leak but literally a few drops on the tinware but not creating a significant oil level reduction according to the dipstick.

It's the smoking that shocks me, but maybe I am expecting too much of an old motor?

EEEEEEEEK if you have paranoia over that....then, well i should be needing drugs!!!

My well worn 2.1 smokes like that when she starts up after an overnight stop, with a similar blue tinge...and she stinks. But just like yours it clears after just a few seconds. The engine we think is a 1990 with no attention other than the basics...so thats 20 years old this year!! Pulls strongly, just got worn rings that the oil slips past and then burns off.

Dunno if that offers you any reassurance, other than that another engine does it!!

Hi Em!

PHEW.... I am not the only one!!

It sounds like it was me being OTT, I have got myself worked up thinking that something was seriously wrong, and it has been niggling away for a few week!

I shall try and relax now!

Cheers Em
