Do they affect available height (for battery etc) under the seat?
Are they available without runners? And hopefully cheaper because of this?
I ask because I have seats from a transit, with integral runners that bolt onto the van. I guess I should look for some f ord swivel bases then, d'oh...
Anyway, how easy are they to make and what sort of legal/safety/mot rules apply?

Several companies sell Tran$it swivels (probably more now than T25/T3 ones. You can also get generic ones which you either weld your runners to or bolt seats to.

Yes it will limit access to the battery compartment(s) and obviously the height of your battery. I use carpeted battery box covers made from 6mm hardboard, thus insulating against accidental contact. Our (VW) bolt in driver's side swivel had to be taken out to remove the battery ... or it did before I carried out an I.T.Hulley Over-engineering solution

I bought 2 swivels ... 1 bolt-in and 1 weld on ... I had the apprentice fitter at werk weld a strip on either side and drill/countersunk holes to match the original bolt-in .. voila 2 bolt-ins we plasma-cut out the lower base plate enough to get a battery in/out

aha! what a great idea... and do you know of any places that sell the generic bases then? I've found a few transit ones but they seem pretty expensive still at £130 each, or is that reasonable?
