Fitting rear arch front lower repair section

Hi,

my rear arches have some small holes at the bottom of the front lower section where it meets the sill.... (nearest front of vehicle).................what i'm wondering is the best type of welded joint to connect the small repair panel and whether its best to cut out the whole front lower section (size of repair panel) or just keep it to whats needed and minimise cutting out. I've no experience with anything but a but weld but was thinking that perhaps buying a joddler tool to creat a lip that could go behind the uppser panel and spot welded from inside?? Anyone got pics of repairing just this section rather than the whole arch. I'm assuming that to weld the vertical seam/flange where it meets the adjoining panel has to be welded from inside? Many thanks for any advice. Both sides will need doing but am thinking of th side that is likely to also need the area below the fridge vent doing.....1983 joker.

I think you would spend more time trying to loose the line with filler work, Might be quicker to just do the whole rear arch. I just did mine and it wasnt that hard at all. Just cutt off the old arch then ground back the spot welds and then prep it for new arch. took me about 3 hours to do it, i am also new to welding, few pics for you if it helps

I clamped it up then stuck a few tacks on the outside to hold it in place the spot welded it like the original panel and to finish it off i seam welded the inner bit. Hope this helps i was pooing my self thinking about doing them but they turned out to be easier than the fronts lol

Oh i use Alan Schofield panels as well they are a very good fit indeed

Cheers Jon,i've been thinkng that and as you say it may be less daunting to just do it.....the bit i'm thinking of is not the arch itself as i can now see from your pics but the lower RHS section in your picture that joins the sill on the lower edge. I checked and the rest of the section and arch are so rust free that it seemed a shame to cut out the whole lot? ALso suspect that the original metal is better than anything i could get to replace it. I think i'll start the cutting and see how it goes with a section...............cheers

Yes its very daunting, But once you have made a few cuts all comes clear. It makes sense how all the seams are joined and you can usually get to them to spot weld. I started by drilling a few small holes to see where they came out the other side lol

Good Luck.
