After months of thinking "yeah I'd like one of them" to last week, with my head gasket going, saying "that's it I'll do it!"
Spent all weekend searching for rear damaged subaru....Nothing!
Will make some calls when everyones back at work but I (stupidly) thought I'd have a pick of them. Apart from ringing round SW breakers, can someone give me some other pointers? Where do insurance companies get shot of them? What am I missing?
Also what sort of price should I be paying? EJ25 sohc <90,000miles Service history, Side/rear (or light front)body damaged, newer the better. Can't find any to judge prices against.

I looked for 8 months bidding on ebay and through scrap-yards and breakers for cars around the 80k mileage at £600 to £800 pounds but losing! There were loads with 150k+ at this price but I worried that the best had been had from the engine. I wanted some history and at this price they tended to have transmission problems. Eventually I got a 2.5 DOHC cat D write-off with £53k, full history, all keys etc for £700 but I cost me £300 to get it from Newcastle to Somerset as it was not roadworthy. I hope to recoup this with £500 from splitting the remains of the Subaru and £500 for the VW engine as it is a recon unit with only 20k on it.

I wonder if its worth paying abit more for a newer one & maybe getting more back via spares being worth abit more.

Personally I wouldnt worry too much about milage.. IF its been serviced well...

I run a Legacy 2L GL as my daily driver, its just clocked 170k.. past MOT last weekend and emissions were great.. very healthy engine.. it was a 1 owner car with full scooby dealer history up to 153k..
I've done 17k in 1 year....

Mine was an ej22 engine think it had about 130k on it when i got it a good service new belts and its sweet!!! Been in the van 5 years now!

I agree. Not enough mileage is probably worse than Saturn V mileage (ask your dad if you don't know what that means )
I recently bought a '97 2.2 Legacy for £400, 220k on the clock!!! (that's only 55 miles a day for it's whole life)
But it's got a FULL service book and a wad of MOT's including the current one. Emissions OK = healthy motor
Except that it's in Oldham I'll work that one out somehow...

scooby syncro?

There's around half a dozen on my local scrappy. Going for £300 - £450 +VAT

Bit of a drive but will give you some to compare.

Nah - The syncro's a long-term thing and too rare for butchering imho. I'm going to AWD the 1990 Microbus with a syncro front end and full Legacy drivetrain (we'll see how long the flipped rear diff lasts running up front - diy oil catcher needed there, I reckon) It was chopped about by TSR when the 2.2 went in anyway (angle iron) and I'd like the later engine management from the '97 leggy.
Should be good fun as a road car with the Cup kit already fitted

Grade A Subaru, all the way, got my low mileage ej20 from them for £450 plus delivery.

They pi$$ed me off big time over an early alternator that arrived half smashed to bits - all because they hadn't wrapped it up properly
Won't go there again, what with their "did you read the t&c's on the box before you signed for it"...no I didn't as it was sent to work and a gopher signed without a second glance never seen the like before or since

The guys in the garage that put my new dg lump in said they had a scooby lump they were selling, didn't want much for it, but as far as I know it didn't have the wiring loom etc. If you want I can ask if they still have it.

Cheers mate but no have decided I want a whole car. So I can see it running & test it before fitting. May have to get slightly earlier one, DOHC that has had head done.
Still looking but have been busy with other "Balls".
