When I bought my 1983 Devon 2.0 Aircooled CU last year I found out that it had got a replacement distributor fitted - think its a Bosch 009 with points and condenser.

I've now got hold of the originally specified correct distributor (Bosch 007) and wondered how difficult a job it is to replace the 009 with this. The hall sender etc and all wiring is still in the engine bay and appears to be complete.

The original one should have vacuum advance which will work better under load and probably also mean that when fitting the 009 the mixture was set richer than necessary in order for the engine to run ok with that distributor. So, fitting the new unit is easy, just needs a new rubber o ring, fit it same as old one comes out and it will then need timing and you will have to work out where to hook up the vacuum pipe to. I'm sure another cu owner will come alog soon. Good luck. Tim
