Does anyone know where I can get a suitable set of replacement studs for my water pump? VW reckon they can't get hold of them anymore.

I simply used m8 suzuki bandit bolts trimmed with a grinder, as I needed 3 washers with leaving them at full length.

Its not a highly stressed item so some M8 studding cut off to appropriate length will do.. or cut the head off a bolt.. stick a nut on before cutting and clean up the cut end with a file run the nut off.. or use a bolt of the correct length to just screw into the case..

Use a bit of "copperslip" on them so that you can get the nuts off in a few years if the pump needs replacing again..

I was wondering if it could just be replaced by a bolt.. I suppose the disadvantage of a bolt is that you have to unscrew it in one, whereas a nut and stud can be disassembled in two stages, with a lot of penetrating fluid in between.

Why would you want to take the stud out?? if the original has lasted 20 years, then the replacement is going to be in there a good 10 years... No point removing something that doesnt need to be removed...

Are they buggered?? clean them up with a brass/bronze brush, run a new nut down them with some copperslip and leave them alone...

There was some issue with the system - the number came up on ETKA but wasnt recognised by the ordering software. Said he would sort it out, but then seemed to have given up when I next went in. Didnt want to push it as I think he's sick of seeing me. Got the pump off tonight and actually, the studs don't look too bad. I'll just copper-slip and reuse.

Didn't realise you had to remove the long push-fit pipe to remove the pump, so hadn't ordered new fasteners for it, which is annoying. Might see if I can dig some up at work. I've got some overlong ones, but some bugger has pinched my j.hacksaw.
