Flat Battery - Split Charging Relay

Hi I've been having trouble with my 88 Joker 1.6TD main battery going flat; I had left it disconnected over the last few months whilst it over wintered in the garage. After reconnecting last week and starting first time I have to jump start the van today as the battery was partially discharge. It is no problem when the vehicle is run and it will start again within a couple of hours. So my thought is that it might be the split charging relay that is causing problems.
After I bought the van last year I fitted a leisure battery and a new stereo – but this was causing the main battery discharge (I’ve replaced the main battery – it had had it). I wired both stereo feeds (main & memory) to the leisure battery as the main battery was still discharging. I think that it is a ‘sticking’ split charge relay as there are no indicator lights on the radio (as there should be); this is then allowing the main battery to discharge as well.
Does this seem the right?
One other question where do I find the split charge relay (is it the one in the leisure battery bay (under the drivers seat)
Thanks for you help.
