Bleeding diesel system

I've had a good rummage around and didnt get anywhere with the search engine on here but basically Im looking to change the fuel filter on a 1.9 watercooled this weekend, I've got the Haynes book of lies but it only covers the petrol engine not the diesel.

Does anyone have a link or know how to bleed the system after a fuel filter change. Is it similiar to a Landrover-open bleed screw, operate manual lever on fuel lift pump?

Thanks in advance.

There isn't a lift pump mare there is ableed on top of the filter, these engines have a leak off on top of the injectors. Try turning it over and cracking one of the injectors off in turn (1,2,3 then 4) but it really shouldn't need it

I usually fill the filter prior to fitting and crank it and find it goes soon enough

1.6TD JX, never bleed it, swapped the filters and turned it over until it started, job done.

made a bit more sense once I had a proper good nosey at it. Filled new filter with fuel and it started okay first time.

Turns out the engines a 1.7 rather than a 1.9 thats on the parperwork which confused things.
