Hi

I was wondering if anyone had any avice on heating my van when camping. I cant really aford an eber so what are my options other than this?
I havea 110amp leisure battery but using elecy would would still be out of the question

Many of us have this problem including me !!

There is no easy solution.

It has been covered lots of times on here so a hunt around using the search will find you the topics, but there is no magic solution.

Woolly hats, thick coats, good blankets, a large dog, a hot water bottle etc etc have all been mentioned

Just DON'T use one of those little Calor gas heater you can buy (unless you wish to die)
Oh and DON'T use the cooker for heat in a closed van (again, unless you wish to die )

Correct - forget getting heat from any sort of battery

15 togg duck down duvet, you will be kicking the covers off at -5.

Eber or propex is the only way really.
They are expensive but well worth it, best thing I ever fitted to my van

I do have a big firebrick out of a storage heater. I stick it on the cooker and get it nice and hot with the doors open and then turn the cooker off. It works quite well and gives of a good amount of heat for at least 3 hours.

Irun a propex but also have a 'therm x' theyre a cat heater and we use that during the day as its silent and uses no lecky, have borrowed some analytical gear from work and suffice to say it was safe running over night, though we never do as its under the covers time.
just had a web look and they are 150ish new only paid 90 for it in 04, was one on the bay of fleas that went for 103.

They seem OK fumes wise, what with having (apparently) virtually no fume output I wonder how much condensation it causes = let us know Micky

I still reckon you would have to be very careful regarding the heat setting fire to curtains etc.

OK for a quick war up in the van but no thermostat and no protection against being used after a bucket of beer

Another £100 would get you a used Eber but then you have to fit it...

Never mind, Spring is here and Summer is around the corner, in my case I think I will wait until the end of the season and look at my finances then

Which is exactly the right time to be buying a pre-loved Eber or Propex. Invest now, relax in the warmth later.

that's what I plan to do when I move back yo the uk!!!

Ok I have mine fitted on the side of the bog box ( yep nice when your sat on it) and its facing the fridge, Usually only have it on low often for a few hours at a time,

never gets the fridge front hot and nothing to fall on it, there are legs for free standing but not for in the van thank you very much, hence why I bolted it in and hard plumbed to my OBG tank,

No flames just a wavering occasional glow from the mesh and off course the small pilot flame, have blown this out deliberately and the heater shuts down quick enough,

Condensation? well there isnt any so to speak, I get more if I have the hob lit, the van gets toasty hot and it is well 'silent' and as said uses no juice.

I know the hassles caused by calor heaters as used in the home but I have not had a problem and only ever use the propex to heat it up initially this last winter when its been silly cold and then leave it on overnight on the stat,

CAnt say anymore cept its been a really good buy, hope this helps.

I did try a catalytic heater before I got the Eber, worked OK but takes up to much room in the van, and there no way I'd leave it on over night. Never set the CO alarm of though.

Think mines still in the garage somewhere

I passed a green t25 on the way up to Skye this week and it had a steel chimney comming out of the top so makes you wonder what sort of heating they had in it.

yeah I agree! I have a propex but since I bought a 15 tog quilt I never put it on even at dub freeze last month when I woke up in a snow covered van I was still to hot in bed!
