I have recently had a 2.2 (ej22) Subaru engine fitted to by T25 pick up. I am having trouble starting it in the cold, I have been told this is normal, is it? I have fitted a new HIgh Torque starter motor and it will start but never first time.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Sorry its not all Subarus, I have no problems with mine.
Mine uses a normal Subaru starter on an RJES bell housing.
Is yours a vw starter on some other conversion?

It's a High Torque VW starter which seesm to work well, however the van never starts first time. The guy who fitted the engine did not fit the starter motor I did. When I spoke to him today he said all subaru's are difficult to start in the cold so mines normal hense the question.

Erm no subaru should be hard to start when cold! They were originally designed for cold climates hence the back to front coolant system, mines never had a problem and i have never heard of this problem.

I think you been lied to as he hasnt fitted t correctly!

Plenty of juice in the battery and it should fire up a treat. All a Scooby takes is a quick turn of the key.

By the way who did it?

Probably hasn't had the cold start circuit wired in. Scooby's are modern vehicles, how many other modern vehicles can you name that don't start on the 1st turn of the key?

any error codes on the OBD?

Check my posts about poor starting and other EJ22 aggro. You need to make sure that there's a wire from the starter solenoid spade connector back to the ecu (relevant terminal in a reply from rjes) so it knows that the engine is cranking and adds additional fuel for starting. Do this and it will start first time, every time.
Sounds like you've got another TSR lash-up You'll get it right with a bit of persistance.

It was'nt even TSR it was a local company DC Customs. The bloke who did it is a really nice chap, taking the van back to him this weekend see if he can fix it (free I hope).

It' s a nightmare you spend a lot of money on an engine that should make the camper go better and then it takes ages to get it sorted. Do other companies who do Subaru conversions change the starter motor, I had to do mine myself?

I will check that there's a wire from the starter solenoid spade connector back to the ecu, sounds like it could be that.

You might be suprised to find that i have a tsr adaptor plate and never had even a slight problem with it, I did mine when Rjes wasnt even a company then!!

The ironmongery's ok (if a bit basic) - it's the standard of wiring loom mods that leaves a bit to be desired...
Tischer, DC Customs may have done the fitting, but whose parts did they use?

I have no idea I will ask him tommorrow, rjes parts are good then. Had it done because I dont know enough about engines, trying to learn though so looking forward to asking more questions, cheers.
