My vans off for painting tomorrow! Ill be without it for 3 weeks! God Im going to miss it! Its my only vehicle too so Im going to be bussing it for the next while. It will be the business when its back though. Its going to be something like this...

Shiny though obviously. The grey will be wolfram grey. The guy whos doing it does top class work. He paints mercs etc, and hes a real perfectionist, and a proper VW enthusiast too.

This is how the van looks now...

Not a great pic I know but you get the idea.

I'm dying to post some sort of comment about "so, you're leaving the wheels soft focus?"......but as yet I've managed to stop myself.......

Best of...... :D

Well you didnt do a very good job of stopping yourself now did you!? :ok The joys of taking photos through the dusty lens of a camera phone.

Im really looking forward to having my van looking good now. It looks crap in that bloody shade of off-white that VW insisted on using. The paint is in rag order too so it really needs to be sorted now. Ill post pics again when its back.

Hey Ross!

Are you going to paint it also inside? And I think you are not going offroad because with a new paint... Yesterday I was driving by a "greenlane", some mud, many trees scratching the roof and the sides of the van and many horses looking to me and maybe thinking "who the h*ll is that guy and what is he doing here??" so I don't imagine you in that place with a recently painted van.
Anyway I hope to see the van when will be finished. Best of lucks.

Trust me Andy, they are something else!!

Hey Ross

Ill be waiting for the paint to sufficiently harden before doing that sort of stuff. But I do intend to go offroading in it after its painted too. The bottom part of the van will be done with stone chip paint so it should be somewhat resistant. I wont be driving through any forests though! Ill drop by when I get it back.

Trust me andy those wheel arch pieces of crap are coming off and are not going back on! They dont even nearly fit properly. I had to go through all sorts of jiggery pokery to get them on. Im debating getting new ones actually that do fit and are of good quality.

Anyway ive ordered a new rear bumper from GSF and I have a set of opening quarterlights and a captains chair lined up for it as well, all available for collection when I get my van back. Should be next week at this rate!! Rock and roll! Speaking of rock and roll I then have to get some bed foam for my rock and roll bed and cover it! Its coming together lads!

Youve no idea how happy I am with the job that has been done on this. It looks absolutely amazing. Obviously Ive to put the bits back on it but that wont take me long. I offered to do it myself cause it saves time and means I can go and get my van earlier! But yeah, turned out far better than I had hoped. Opinions?

Top marks fella! I have to agree that your choice of colours works surprisingly well - very subtle and understated - it should look fecking rude when you get all your bits back on.

You've got me thinking that I shouldn't be settling for a boring old respray in the same colour now... Post some new pics when it's finished!

Wot that needs is some bramble rash - that'll finish it good and proper.
