Hi
We are planning a trip in April to mersea Island, has anyone been and what are the main attractions. I have heard it is great for Oysters, thats all i know. Any advice would be gratefully received.

We've been camping on Mersea Island a few times, usually in a big family group on a bank hols weekend. The first thing you need to know is that on a causeway and there's only one road to access it and it does flood from time to time due to the tide... which can make it interesting :)
Not sure how many touring camp sites there are but the main one is Waldegrave a fairly big site that has everything (check their website) and like all popular sites it can be busy at peak times. There are also static caravans and holiday cottage's. There's a small pretty beach area and places to walk the dog (most important for us). There's also a village/shops etc off the camp site which always reminded me of times gone by. Have a look at Goole Earth and you'll see it's a good place to base yourself for touring. :D Hope you have a good time :ok

Ps Not keen on oysters myself so I can't say, but there is an area on the beach where I saw fishing boats etc but didn't venture.

Cheers Guys
Looks like its Seaview for us then. We are going on April 10/11/12 so hopefully it won't be too busy.

get yourself here for Oysters and seafood in general.

not been myself yet but some foodie friends have raved about it, as have top restaurant critics. Affordable and basic but top quality.

enjoy!

Can recommend the company shed - take your own bread and booze - last time we went you turned up and Q'd outside until a table was free - but I heard that they were going to start taking bookings
