Now I fixed the speedo I thought I would log how many miles I would get from the AAZ in the Westy. I am not sure exactly how big the deisel tank is and the clocks are in KM but I filled it right up and did 600KM on a full tank. Anyone know my MPG please?

Pretty good man, i reckon i get about 25mpg out of mine.

The tank is approx 70 liters but that doesn't really mean anything ...how much did you actually put in after your 600 km?

Aah well, you see, you have to times this and divide that and then Clive will pop along and pop it into excel and give you some figures.
Never mind mpg, I hear there may be some video worth viewing...

The best I ever got from a tank was 550km's, and that was all motorway. That was about 27mpg.

The down side is the 350 to 400km per tank when around town driving, so I don't do that very often.

If you get 70L in thats 24.2 mpg..........
60L will be 28.2

Do you have an iphone. If you do get Gas Cubby. It's great. I put in my fill up details, insurance, mot, service dates etc. You can set things like miles until a tire rotation is due etc. It lets you know when the mot is due insurance, services etc. Has great graphs that show things like fuel prices over a period of time, mpg, has tables which show things like totals spent. Makes scary reading actually. Well it does for my Syncro. Total costs on fuel since April last year is £1460. Thats for 4865 miles.

Worst I have had out of my AAZ is 27mpg, and I leather that everywhere, up hill down dale.
It's modified also, 1.5 bar boost, extra fuel, modified pump, charge cooler. Goes well. 2WD though.

Slobbo at a quick count that V6 Monster of yours is only doing about 14 to 16 MPG............

If that's normal running around what are you going to get off road.........

Yeah I know it is bad. It is however approx 8% out so I pretend it is better than it is. I don't care too much. It is a toy rather than a daily. I do enjoy surprising Subarus and boy racers. Ceinwen gave me an ear full on the weekend because I just had to tear off and leave a pair of Subaru driver with jaws agape.

You should mount that Mini Cam of yours on the back of your bus and we could all join in the fun..............

I get a genuine 29 mpg around town and 36 mpg on a run in my 1.9 tdi Syncro doka. One thing you might need to take in to account is if you run taller Tyres than standard. Work out the rolling radius increase as a percentage and add that % to your mpg

Yep done that the figures are out by 8%. Worked out the difference using a 200 mile journey from home to work using the GPS.

I recon mine does low 30's most the time, but the injection system needs an overhaul so hopefully it'll get a bit better (thats a stock JX in a pannel van).

One problem I'm having is getting the tank to fill to the top consistantly (to do any meaningful economy tests you need to be able to refill to a known point, the guage is far too vague). From filling from near the red sometimes it'll take about 55l and the guage will go right to the top but other times it'll only do about 40l and show 3/4 on the guage. Fill speed makes a slight difference so I think it must be a diesel foaming issue, but its mainly down to luck it seams (I not noticed a trend with different brands). Don't remember it happening in the summer (didn't have it on the road last summer so its a distant memory) so maybe winter diesel is more prone to foam? Any other van owners get this problem?

When checking your odo calabration remember to test the actual odo reading against a GPS or the km markers on a motorway, rather than chack the speedo error and asume its the same, it shouldn't be! Speedos usally over read a bit more than trip counters, and T3 speedos seem prone to over reading even more when ageing as I recon the neadle creaps on the spindle, especally if it has a cable tremmor at low speed where the neadle clatters against the stop.

Yes, foaming is a big issue.
The vent pipes on the syncro tank aren't the best thing VW ever designed. Even with lots of patience I only ever manage to really brim the tank on every third fill or so.
