Increasing Centre Bore on Alloys????

Hi folks. Got some Mercedes Alloys which fit the stud pattern but centre holes too small for front hubb due to end cap. I've seen the thred on Brickyard on getting them bored out a little so I gave the thread and my wheels to my local spray shop to have them bored and re-furbed. He has taken them to 2 different garages to have them bored and both of them have told him that it is not safe as the centre hole would then be too close to the wheel nut holes and the wheels could crack under the pressure! Is this true??? Can it be done??? Help or advise greatfully received!!!

Stick a photo up so we can see the type of wheel. Go to an engineering shop to get them bored out not a garage.

ok this may be the wrong way of doing this but this is how i got my golf gti front wheels to fit when i couldnt get them over the front hub after fitting spacers with a new stud pattern.i took the hub off fitted the wheels, made a square hole in the off side centercap to take the speedo cable filled the center full of grease and poped the center caps on to stop the wet getting in.
