I'm the proud new owner of a 1983 T25 camper, i've always fancied one of these but never actually got round to owning one.
Now its here we've already planned a trip to the south of France in the summer.
Soooooooooooooo all i need is a bit of advice, the van was originally fitted with a DF engine but someone has changed it for the DG engine which i understand is a bit more powerful, the problem is they've kept the original carb off the DF engine which is a solex carb but the DG engine should have a pierburg carb fitted, so my question is(finally) will the solex carb off the DF engine be ok on the DG engine or would i be better changing it and if so what for? a pierburg or an aftermarket weber.

Buy a known good s/h Pierburg would be my advice.

A rebiult Pierburg and the correct DG manifold (as IIRC the DF manifold is different too.. )

Hey glynn how did you go with this as i have the exact same situation.

I was advised to keep the solex under the dont fix it if it aint broke theory. We have had ours 3 years and its OK has afair bit of torque but not much top end. Not a big deal as the top speed limit here is 100ks.

Would be interested to know if the pierburg made a differrence.

How are you doing and how's New Zealand,my wife has family in Toko Roa, we're hoping to move over there ourselves in 2 years and i can't wait.
I was told that the Pierburg would give more power and usability but i can't say yet if this is true because my van is in a million pieces all over my yard, the carbs on but the tank isn't(i'm waiting for water pipes) it just made sense to me to change the carb, there didn't seem a lot of point in putting in the more powerful engine and then strangle it with the wrong carb, the previous owner put the engine in and left the carb as was so they were happy enough.
If you do decide to change it you will also have to change the airbox but i'm sticking on a mushroom filter, i won't know for a few weeks if i've succeeded.

I bought the van very cheap but my god does it need work, it all looked ok until i started ripping into it, but summer's coming(or going for you,sorry to depress you)so i WILL get it done.
