Hi
last week my van started blowing Number 10 fuse, the 16A red one, repeatedly. This fuse serves the heater blower and the windscreen wipers, so I was unable to use the van for few days, for fear of rain! My local motor factors took a peek and suggested that the blower cold be jammed. It did make a few funny noises before dying!

Question is : is it easy to remove? How is it removed? Are they repairable or can you get replacements? (part no?)

Methinks I will be taking dash apart this weekend?

Hm, if you switch the fan and wipers off , fit a new fuse then try the wipers if these work then looks to be the fan motor, dont stop you driving though, just pretend your in a Aircooled

Seized heater blowers are pretty common....dash out job unfortunately although someone did recently post a temporary repair method which involved drilling a hole through the front panel above the radiator to get access and lube one of the bearings. Lots of info in the Wiki...just do a search.
The motors are pretty generic and the same part as a Golf/Jetta/Polo and others.
Euro Car Parts and GSF sell them..in the region of £35.00
Dash out apparently time consuming more than anything..got to get around to doing mine sometime (mines churps like a canary lol)

You must have similar fusebox to me as mine did exactly what yours is doing only it took out my wipers on the M1 in torrential rain and it was 6 miles before I was able to pull off and replace the fuse. It was a seized motor. I would advise putting the blower on its own fuse if you can.

I just replaced the heater blower on my van, it sounds like a bad job, but if you enjoy a bit of tinkering you wont find it too hard to do, If you have the part you can easily do it in a morning.

I have never had the blower working in my van so its a real treat now.

I did mine on saturday, fairly easy job but i had four of the six srews shear off that hold the heater box on, took me best part of an hour to get 2 of them out so now its held in with just 4 but cant see it being a problem. Got to take it out again though as the blower is shot, it did work for a few mins then seized again so beyond repair i reckon.

Don't worry, mine too is held in with less bolts but seems ok. Main thing is you don't want draughts other than where air is meant to come in.
