Stereo Power?

Hi All.

I have just replaced the stereo and fitted some new speakers in to the van and whilst that is fine for driving around, I was thinking of what would be the best way to power the stereo when parked/camping.

I have a leisure battery and a hook up fitted, I was thinking of a rocker switch to change from 12v vehicle battery to either the 12v leisure battery (with intelligent charger) or a 230v/12v transformer.

I recently installed a 2x usb charger (with inline fuse) under the dash that powers my ipod and mobile phone and I would like to include that too.

What would be the best way forward with this project?

Any ideas or thoughts on this concept would be appreciated.

I searched the wiki but to no avail.

Cheers

Put your stereo on your leisure to start with. That way you're far less likely to flatten starter. Mines like that. Once you're moving, the leisure gets charged up anyway and if your hookup trickles leisure, again you're fine. Try to devote starter battery to vehicle running only where you can. That way, even if everything else is flat, you can at least start the vehicle.

Put mine on a throw switch so I can alternate from starter to leisure. Never use it on starter so it was a waste of time :lol:

Cheers, the leisure battery is the way forward then.

Definately. I had so many probs with a flat battery before I did that, and was reason why I fitted a second. As a rule, anything not crucial to vehicle running/main lighting, should be on leisure (or second starter type battery). You can still run a ciggy socket from starter battery if you want to - just in case.

I wired mine up like this, that way whilst driving your les. battery gets all the charge, and once the frrd from the ign. is off it switches to the les battery only thing you need to do is to run the memory from which ever battery you want,

Hi there.

Just to confirm then, any 5 pin switching relay will do such as.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-30A-5-Pin-Cha ... 27a88164db" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

IGN POS is ignition positive?

Am I right in saying that with regard to live feeds in the dash, if it is on constantly then it is from the battery, if it is on only when the key is turned it is from the ignition?

Many thanks for the help.
