Having replaced my original engine for a 1.9 non turbo diesel I find that I can no longer get a reading on my dipstick unless I overfill the oil. The sleev which the dipstick goes into is a different size to the original engine and it does look like its possible to swap them over. the only thing I can think of is to get a longer dipstick. Any ideas where I might get one or the material to make one?

Sorry to thread crash, i need a slightly longer one too, if anyone has another spare hanging about.

I could not remove the tube when i fitted my AAZ should have done it when the engine was out but forgot. if you have the jx one and have the jx alternator bracket fitted you can get 10mm to 8mm straight compression fitting and cut both tubes to get required length if not you could cut the tube down with pipe cutters by the amount the dip stick is short asuming you have correct volume of oil and the van is level if the dip stick doesn't touch the oil to start with then just take the distance from the tip to max mark off for starters and then redo from oil level to max. still leaves you having to remove engine cover to dip oil but at least you will be able to dip it.

use a stiff peice of wire, (straightened coat hanger or similar thickness) with a hook on the top to stop it falling in and to get a point of reference for measuring. Then remove the wire and plug the tube with something tapered and plastic (golf tee?) when driving. drain. Fill to correct level as above for calibrating then cut a couple of good notches (buenos noches?) for low and high.

thinking about it, some dipstick tubes are bent the above would only work for straight, for bent tube you would need some sort of ribbon steel to follow the tube without getting stuck/gouging the tube.....
