does anyone know a way to free up stuck union fittings, I have been trying to get this clutch union off (see pic) all day so far I've soaked it in WD40, bang it with a hammer, heated it up with a blow torch until red but it is stuck fast and not budging, this whole clutch issue which started out as a knackered slave cylinder is driving me mad.



Simon Baxter if your reading this thanks for the offer of sorting a new pipe for me, I was wondering if I could replace a shorter piece of the clutch line to save removing the fuel tank as I not really that sure about taking it out myself on the street. I was thinking of this (see pic below)

its plusgas you need to soak it in not wd40..

it should be possible to replace the whole lot without removing the tank but you could just replace a small section. brake pipe fittings do not fit though.

Where do get Plusgas from ? Done a quick interweb search seems to be mail order.

Two pairs of quality locking pliers (best are Vise-Grips) never fail. Well almost never lol

most motor factors sell plusgas

Yup...two pairs, firmly clamped and offset so squeezing together undooooos the union (curved jaw ones work best) but don't use any cheapo ones, they will do more harm than good.

I've always found that the special pipe-union spanners work well, as they grip the nut better (more faces) than a normal open-ended spanner (with mole grips on the other union). E.g. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165469" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Agree that plus-gas is the way to go.

For the sound advice they all gave me changing out my clutch slave cylinder and clutch pipe, the van van is back on the road the tappets have quietened down purring like a very happy kitten and the gear change is now super smooth. Thanks again guys.

Id also like to thank Simon Baxter for offering to cut some clutch pipe to length and flare the ends etc and all though I didn't need it this time it is very much apprceiated.

Now Im off to plan some camping trips
