running cool

ever since i changed the coolant and added some corrosion protection from frost autos(which also reduces running temp by up to 30%) the temp guage moves about 3mm above the starting white line(about a quater on the guage)if i turn the heater on the needle moves down about another 1mm then back up again if i turn it off.
the heater works fine and the radiator fan comes on if the van is left to idle so the coolants getting up to temp
anybody else had this is it owt to bother about or does it sound like the thermostat is faulty
and finally is it ok to carry on driving it like this

just see how it goes, "Normal temp" , according to VW is anywhere from the first white block to the red block the other end.......

mine has been reading down the low quarter for a couple of months since i changed engine, seems ok, heater is as hot as ever, and as long as it tells me if there is any change, i'm happy with it, engine temp is correvct according to ext themometer, so take that as normal, and panic if it goes up , or down?

Mine is the same

Heater works fine but gauge hardly moves.

I was looking for the temp sender part that screws into the thermostat housing at Bustypes but didn't find one.

I want mine to read correctly so it looks like I may have to try the Main Stealers :(

Unless anyone has got a spare one :) ( 1.9 DG, later type stat housing )

Interesting stuff there slimesub5 ( whats your name friend ? )

As in the case of the OP ( original poster ) and myself, the heater works fine and the rad fan comes on, so I suspect, certainly in my case, your problem is different, as my engine does seem get to temp, it's just that the guage says it hasn't !!
