Hi New Westy Owner here and have just noticed that the speedo is on zero up to 15-20mph and then kicks in normally over this speed. Have checked connections both ends all looking ok? Any suggestions appreciated.......

I have just started to review this problem as well, sometimes it doesn't come on at all and i hit the top of the dash (just like getting a picture on an old tv)

Anyone out there got any ideas?/

Cheers

Stephen

Mine does make an odd ticking noise until I get to about 10kmh but I just assumed that was how it was and never really thought about it really

The fault is in the head.....the needle part isn't directly connected to the cable driven part of the speedo. The way that it works is: the cable drives a permanent magnet in the speedo head, the faster this magnet spins the greater the magnetic draw is on a cup shaped (coupling) which is the part directly attached to the needle (a bit like a viscous coupling)....Your needle is obviously sticking and is only overcome when the strength of this spinning magnet reaches a certain point (as you say, a speed of 15-20mph) Specialist intrument service or other instrument repairers.

Worst thing you could do M8......I tried that myself and now the speedo doesn't even work for the first 3-4 miles. I suspect the WD40 is 'relatively' thick on these cold mornings making the cup mechanism attached to the needle harder to 'overcome'
