Has anyone ever used one of these? Do they work? We are constantly lugging around two gas tanks because we can never remember how much gas the one we are using has in and if these work they'd be perfect. I think there are two types the stick on type and the magnetic, my hunch is the stick on would be better as i think these work of how cold the bottle is and the stick on would give a better reading.

we used the magnet type when we had a (*cough) Caravan......we had the big gas bottle in those days and it was stored away out of sight they do sort of work (both types work on a temprature basis) - it wasn't very accurate to be honest; we still used to manage to run out of gas 1/2 way through breakfast!!!
unless you have 2 gas bottles I wouldn't bother, cos it doesn't matter how much you have left - you can't replace it till its empty (unless you're willing to throw good money away) thats why I take a spare if mine's running low & I always find picking the bottle up & giving it a shake is a good indication of how much gas you have left.

I bought one, but it's pants! I reckon the best solution is to buy a small set of spring scales and weigh the bottle. If you know the weight of an empty bottle, you can quickly judge how much gas is left.

A propex (1.6kw) will run for 26 hrs constant from a 907 butane bottle.
try and make a mental or even a little note of hrs use when camping, then it'll give you a rough idea of how much is left
