what would cause

an engine to run better with the timing advanced by 30 degrees
im struggling to get it to run at 5 before TDC
any ideas

Plug leads in right place? Timing gun on right lead? Double check. 30 degrees just to get it to run is extreme.....

triple checked everything
ive just replaced piston rings hydraulic lifters
and head gaskets its a 19 dg

check with vac dissconnected.. 5-8 deg BTDC (I run mine about 7-8)
Cam drive in the right place?? check the rotor alignment for no1 when crank at TDC..

im trying to get it running on petrol mark
every thing is set to the book i will sort gas out after ive sorted it on petrol
ive even checked the advance weights in dizzy
i will go through every thing again in the morning
Si did that pdf come in usefull mate

Is the the dizzy 'sat' down correctly ?
get it sorted on petrol first

To be honest I wouldn't have thought you could get an engine to run at 30 degrees advance. If you were able actually start it I should think it would kick bacl, run very hard and pink like buggery. I would be interested to know about you timing equipment and your procedure.

aiden was right nackered dizzy picked up broken one by mistake
now ive got to sort the lpg out
