Cutting Out

I having issues with my 84 1.9DG T3 van, It's been great through all the cold weather and snow starting first time every time, I even had it stood for a couple weeks and it still started first time. However It started dropping below 1000 revs and stuttering a little. Recently its gotten worse and started cutting out when I pull up to lights etc, it still starts first time after its cut out, but its now at the point where I have to get out of gear early brake with my right just to keep revs at 1000 so it wont cut out. Its also has a slight loss of acceleration, splutters very slightly then gets power again as if a fuel blockage or something. I don't know as I'm not a mechanic. I am taking it to get serviced and have new brakes fitted, but not for a couple of weeks, just thought someone might have some ideas of what might be wrong.
Cheers

Sounds very similar to the problem with mine. What is it like at higher speeds? Mine cannot go over 40mph, or even less up hills at the mo as well as having the problems you have stated. I'm changing my fuel pipes and filter tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes. Have you run it very low on fuel? Or even run out of fuel (as I did)? Another possibility is that your fuel pump is on its way out.

If this is a van with a carb rather than fuel injection i would say that you may have a blocked jet, by the sound of it the slow running jet in the carb may be blocked, or perhaps the idle speed just needs to be increased slightly by adjusting at the carb, sounds more like slow running jet blocked tho

Normally at the first sign of these things I change the inline fuel filter. Its amazing how a £2 part can be fine one minute and knackered the next... buy a couple (one as a spare) and change it.. If your still having problems it could be your fuel pump...
Hope you get it sorted

Yes sorry it's a early 84 T3 1.9DG.
I think higher speeds are ok, however I only drive 3.5 miles a day on this drive the fastest I go is about 50. Last time I went faster was over a fortnight ago then she seemed fine.

How much do you think I'll pay for a new fuel pump?

Clean out or replace the dizzy cap and rotor to ensure that its getting a good spark also take it for a good drive and wind her up on a motor way to blow the crap out of her, when was the last time it was serviced ?

I Only work 5 miles from home so once a week i take her the long way home and do about 25 miles in her at all speeds and near the end she gets a 2 mile 70mph blast down the dual carrigeway before letting her wind down for the last two miles through a couple of 30 and 40 zones

Sounds like its more to do with fuel then anything, bet carb wants cleaning out, including jets and mixture screw. New fuel filter and just hope the fuel tanks not rotten on the top or the rubber on the filler necks knackered...

Well I only brought it on new years eve, I'm booked in for service among other things at a local garage but thats not until end of the month. I have a spare fuel tank funnily enough. The van has a full service history been well looked after but will see I guess. Interesting to see so many points of view.

does stall when it's warmed up or all the time?

Today I left it running for 10 min before driving home from work, however I only live about mile and half from my work, It did it when preparing to reverse on my drive, I think that was sufficient time to warm up? If it was then yes it is.

So it does it from cold.. stalls that is.
then I too would suspect fuelling.
and the usual suspect is the pump, filter by the tank and the one in the carb.
is it misfiring at all or does it tick over fairly smoothly
