hi,
I am looking to fit a bunk bed above the cab seats in my 1986 camper. Has anyone done this? Where did you get it from?
The one for sale on just kampers seems only to be for Bay Windows..........

Its ok. I think mine needs to stretch a little as it is quite difficult to put up at the moment.

do a search on the forum, lots of us have made our own cab bunks......if you get no joy, let me know & I'll post some pics

Yep. I fitted the JK one. Suits my young lad fine, but make sure you order the right size canvas.

I made my own , i got some steel from the local steelyard cost me £8 and just get some canvas to the colour of your choice.

Thanks 1664. made this myself. 2 alloy poles, piece of material, 4 cup brackets from camping shop, Self tappers into doors.

Thanks 1664 and all others for help. Will make it my self. 1664: Where did to get the poles from? Where did you mount the cup brackets on the doors? Did you do it on the doors so that the bunk is in a better position than putting it up on the pillars A and B? Cheers! The forum has solved so many problems for me, its embarrassing that I never have any advice to give....Thanks!

I just helped in getting the picture up. funbus1 actually made the bed so you'll need to ask him - perhaps PM him??

Hi all.
I got mine from just campers,
The measuring instructions are not exactly easy, I found it much easier to stretch canvas between poles, and fit cup brackets to pillars to suit.
This gives a much tighter bed and doesnt impose as much on seats.
we can fit a blow up ready bed easily on ours.
Littlest girl loves it.

I'm not sure what FB1 did, but I mounted the brackets on the A pillars and just below the seat belt mounting - we had to counteract the shape of the van by putting large washers behind the brackets to allow them to sit absolutly vertical, your poles need to be cut to allow some play in the brackets but not much. We put the brackets on the pillars to allow for the bed to be a little wider and so that the door hinges weren't damaged by the extra weight......and this way we can still open the cab doors with the bed in place which makes it easier to retrieve stuff stored in the footwells! The brackets do look a little ugly on the A pillars as they are wider than the pillar (we cut a corner off the plastic bracket) but when we don't need it anymore, I'll just remove the bracket fill the holes and stick a bit of paint on.......
I used 2" diameter wardrobe poles - they were about £5 each froim B&Q

Harry's bunk is high enough to clear the original van steering wheel, it carries the weight of a nearly 13 year old - the only forseeable problem we have is that the lad has to curl his legs up now as he's getting taller!
