The freezing weather finished off the radiator in my 1990 1.6td camper the other day and as money is short i've been shopping around for the best price for a new radiator . The best price so far is from these guys, but would it be ok for my van as I don't know the part number on mine. Cheers Mark. :ok

according to vw the td , 2,1 and airconn/warm temp vans run a radiator with letter code 'e' not 'a' same part number followed by this letter.

its possible that its a thicker rad!

The part number they are listing is for a petrol, the diesel rad I assume must be a bit beefier (as billy says) as it is used on a the dg petrol in warm climate/ with aircon.
Unless of course they are all the same and they do it just to confuse us. :?

025121253A
for vehicle use in warm climates / DF,EY

025121253A
radiator / DG,SP

068121253E
radiator / DJ,MV,SR DIESEL:CS,KY T-DIESEL:JX

068121253E
radiator / for vehicles with air condit. / DF,EY

068121253E
radiator / for vehicle use in warm climates / for vehicles with air condit. / DG,SP

Hope this helps.

Very confusing all this ..Brickwerks radiators for Diesels and 2.1 are said to be 44mm deep, but he has the same one listed for petrols 1.9 :? The one I've seen is described for all models petrol and diesel and its core dimensions are 570mmx 440mm x 45mm??? so is this the same dimension as the Brickwerks one?????? I would love to get the Brickwerks one but there is a £100 difference in price and I'm skint...Advice please.. :( Mark

Fred Flintstone here. If it were me I'd make what I could afford - fit. A radiator is a radiator and its not as if you're trying to put in a mini rad. No idea if theres any difference between radiators in terms of mountings but even if fittings were different (unlikely), its not rocket science to fabricate brackets or whatever to do same job. Buy the one you can actually afford and deal with any probs (if any) as they arise.

The 2.1/Heavy Oil burner rad on Brickwerks will also fit the 1.9, it should give better cooling due to the increased size. I have a Brickwerks one 'in stock' at home ... I could measure it for you if you wish but you won't have the reply till tomorow at the earliest.

Ian.

That would be helpful Ian , I aint rushing to buy the Rad, and will use K-seal as a temp measure until the weather is better for working on the van..Mark :ok

Blimey - that is cheap :ok

btw, I agree with CovKid = I bet it will fit fine.
The subtle differences in stuff like thickness (and therefore capacity) are unlikely to cause any issues unless you are making the van work very hard on a hot day in Egypt

I will be buying one from them (thanks for the link :) ) as soon as the weather improves, as mine has been running on K-Seal for 3 months

If I can find the shed when/IF I get home I'll measure the rad.

Ian.

According to that discount site, the 1.6TD and 1.9 petrol are same part so looks therefore as if its same rad. Like I said, buy it and fit it. I know others will be quick to argue that others are the real McCoy or superior but I've rarely (with the exception of wheel bearings and some filters), found much difference between parts. I am by no means an 'original part' fanatic but a great believer in being innovative and finding substitutes or workarounds for even the most difficult problems. My stainless Kawasaki exhaust a prime example!

ETKA shows part number
025121253 for DF,EY
025121253A for vehicle in warm climates DG,SP
068121253E for DJ,MV,SR,SS, KY,JX, vehicles with aircon DF,EY, and for vehicle use in warm climates / for vehicles with aircon DG,SP

Have no idea what the difference in these radiators are Would guess 024121253A cools better then 024121253, and 024121253E cools better then 024121253B.

E D I T: Brickwerks says 44mm thick for 1.6JX and 2.1WBX, above link says 45. Having replaced several radiators over the years, I've found you often get what you pay for. Cheap often fail due to poor soldering, forming, thinner material.

That said, £69.27 vs £161.92 is a big difference.

Especially when you don't have the £161. Cheap isn't always bad. Bit of luck involved too and for most of us, keeping them going on a budget is sometimes a bigger priority than actually restoring them.
