intermittent rev counter

The rev counter on my Diesel AAZ set up is a bit intermittent.
Ive played around with the multi plug, not convinced this is the problem.
So i would like to know if its possible to bypass the multiplug by removing wire No9 and taking it straight to the rev counter?
Anyone done this?

Mine does the same Al, not convinced it is the multiplug everytime - sometimes a knock on top if the instrument cowl above the tacho fixes it... You tried that?

That sounds exactly the same Jake. Ive been giving the instrument cowling a tap for ages now, but recently its started to have less of an effect.
Thats what led me to thinking about whether the wire for it could be removed from the multiplug and 'hard wired' to the back of the tacho to cut the flexible circuit board thing out of the equation. (ive almost convinced myself that this circuit board is the culprit)
I might have a stab at it....

Mine does it on the doka somtimes. If i reach over the back of the instrument panel and push the conector back up it sorts it out for a week or two. It also effects the fuel guage sometimes and the red flashy light that comes on when you first start the van.

circuit board can be repaired with contact paint, usually it's the clock (permenant live) and the tacho split tracks and the earth that need a little tlc, the tacho trace goes across the end of the circuit board on the return fold that the plug slips onto so has two 180' turns to make and go pooh, mine is so repaired, ok for three years now, touch wood quickly
maplins sell the contact paint, just need a oo or similar fine brush and mix the paint really well

Superb info Aidan!! Many thanks!
Will have to have a good check over the circuit and see if i can find any breaks.
