Well the van,
Image
SLIDESHOW...above.
has finally made it to "tat" towers and sad to say "its dead Jim"

It had sat and gone this green so cleaned it off along with bits of bodywork

Sorted a battery and tried starting it for the first time ...

It turns over ok but would not start even though there is fuel in the system and sparks at the plugs...

Gave it a bit of wd40 and it splutters but won`t run when the residue is burn`t off....

Been doing a bit of reading up and looks like as with the a/c will know a lot more about these engines sooner than later

Looks like another engine code anomaly also as the logbook says dj****** but the engine is stamped 175 :?:

All fired up to try and get it started but the rusted exhaust blew apart when we tried to get it going and don`t want to disturb the neighbours just yet

Watch this space

Hiya mate, the engine number will be a rebuild number ... companies like VEGE etc often cleared the casing number when they rebuilt them.

doh! doh! doh!

Well this is a bit,( no cancel that !) VERY embarrassing

Got it going after doing loads and loads of checks on almost every part of the system ....

As it happens the first thing we looked at was the fuel system to see if it was pressurised in the pipework around the engine bay
Having learnt the hard way and being sprayed with it when opening it up, we swiftly decided 'nowt wrong there' and went on to explore other areas

WRONG

There was fuel and it was pressurised but only because it had not evaporated out of the captive system unlike the stuff before the fuel pump that had GONE :run

Lesson to be learned, do it test by test as per book and save yourself some time and trouble not to mention cold hands etc  :ok

Well that was a really rewarding mornings work 8) 8)
Due to running of vehicle only needed to move up and down drive, did the following

Sorted a bad earth to gearbox (poor cranking)

Bodged snapped accelerator cable just where it met kickdown lever (length of thin wire cable and 2 sections on electrical conection block)

Clamped the exhaust back together at flex joint before back box (jubilee clipped together)

Put the battery back on and fired up first turn and ran sweet :D :D

Now to get some water in the system and get it up to temperature to see if its ok to run for longer periods :ok

Quite excited really as this is all new to me(taking a wreck and seeing it go again)
