(or how I gave up the atkins diet and learnt to love carbs! :)

As mentioned by Covkid amongst others - as easy to overlook - and can effect stalling/running of van -

remove fuel hose to carb

Gently insert screw extractor that can bite and withdraw filter

pull out odd looking thin wire mesh wizards hat filter - clean - and push back -done

Well done for taking the pics. Will add to WIKI. The filter is also notorious for causing lack of power at speed, only recovering when you drop down sometimes as low as 40mph when the power returns once more. This is because the filter stops the float bowl being filled which starves the engine at full throtle. It can indeed cause poor running at low speeds too with engine even dying at idle too. Its only one cause of such symptoms ofcourse, but its easy to check and rather easy to miss unless you know its there. An annual check would seem about right unless you've run with a damaged, old or missing inline filter for any amount of time. The cone filter is the last stop in the chain and tends to build up with scale.
