No warm air through heater system ???????????

Noticed today that there is no warm air coming into the van from the heater system, back in the summer when i flushed the coolant system i made sure that the heater controls were set to hot so that the full system was open and up to temp prior to draining the system since draining the system and refilling the van has run fine temp gauge is spot on just below the little red light so i'm fairly sure that its not an air lock issue, i have also had warm air coming out since the drain and flush what do you guys recon the issue is just to give me some pointers prior to getting my hands dirty ?
thanx

Ay up,
When you filled the system did you open the bleed valve/bolt on top of the rad? Have you checked how much coolant is in the expansion and top up tanks? Is the expansion tank full and the top up tank got plenty?
Is the thermostat working? If it is, you should be able to feel the 'flow' pipe from it getting warm as the 'stat' opens. If it does then you have hot water going towards the front of yer van. If this is the case and you still don't get warm air through then you need to dig a bit deeper. Heater matrix???
Hope this helps.

Yep van was bled up as per Mr Haynes instructions i even put the front wheels on me ramps to get the front higher than the rear, once i was sure she was all bled up i took her for a 20 mile drive to get her up to temp and get the new coolant circulated in the system, the heating was defo working then cos i checked, once back home i parked her up and let her cool overnight, in the morning i checked the header tank aswell as the expansion tank and topped then up accordingly, i check her levels weekly and she don't use a drop of oil or water and she's in everyday use but tbh its only 5 miles to work so i've not noticed the lack of heating before my 60 mile trip today.
Thanks for the reply tho

Are we talking main stat or is there a seperate stat / valve for the heater system ?

Assuming you've got a petrol 1.9 or 2.1i (always helps to add this 'minor' detail). The coolant thermostat to check is in the engine bay, it's near the engine bulk head nearest No.3 cylinder (Mr Haynes will have a diagram if yer not sure). Even on a 5 mile journey you should feel warm air coming through. Have you checked for leaks?

Sorry for the schoolboy error, its a 1.9 DF Petrol engine, defo no leaks fella as i said in my previous post she's checked weekly for levels, i'll have a word with mr Haynes tomorrow and get the stat changed

I know you will have checked this but when I first got my van the heater did not work and it turned out to be the valve controling the coolant to the heater matrix the wire controling it had come off so when the controls were moved from open to closed the valve remained closed, when the van has had a run, feel the the pipes leading to the valve they should be warm eventhough the valve is closed.

Thanks for all the info guys
When i got back from work this afternoon i removed the plastic cover in the centre of the cab and the 2 pipes to the matrix were cold, i then removed the engine cover and top hose coming out of the stat housing is hot where as the one coming from the bottom is very slightly warm, would this conclude that it is indeed the stat that is at fault ?

Most likely an bad earth. They get a bit dodgy on mine at this time of year when the cold weather causes more moisture in the van to fuzz up the crowns. It's so bad this year that the headlight one actually snapped when I was giving them a brush off yesterday.
Disconnect your battery and look behind the fusebox in the front. The earths are under the dash right where all your condensed breath trickles. Give en a brush over with a wire brush (even take them all off and brush or replace) and then see if hot blows. (sorry if you knew all that

)

Its not my blower thats the issue fella that works fine on all 3 speeds but the air coming out of the vents is cold all the time, i'm failing to see how this could be an electrical problem

Mine diminished as soon as the really cold weather appeared. Before that I was roasting in there. Suspect its thermostat on that basis.

But did you bleed it once the engine was up to temperature?
What engine? The dg engine has a second bleed thingy (in the engine bay) that needs to be opened at some point during the process, iirc.

Believe me my friend it was all bled up correctly using both bleed screws, since doing the flush and refill i have had hot air coming through just noticed last weekend that now its only blowing cold air, the top hose out of the stat housing is hot and the bottom is slightly warm so i'm thinking that its a stat problem.
Do you guys have any handy hints for changing the stat done a search on the wiki under "1.9 df thermostat change" and it didn't really bring any thing up
