Hey guys , had a little problem on the M11 this morning , just got towed home

So there was no warning doing about 70 and big puff of blue smoke and sudden loss of power , pulled over straight away and could see oil dripping from engine , called out flux recovery , once again top service from them under the hour

just got home and had a look oil on the engine cover on the left hand side and loss of water from the expansion tanks , water in the oil

turned ignition very briefly and it wanted to fire up and can turn it over by hand on the crankshaft pulley

does this sound like head gasket ?

Not head gasket

More to it than that I am afraid.

A blown head gasket on these engines does not get oil and water mixed, nor causes blue smoke. The head gasket is just a metal ring that seals the head to the top of the liner. If you have a Haynes, or look at the VAGCAT on line, you can see it.

Number 4 is the head gasket
Number 1 and 3 are the "O" rings on the liner that keep the oil and water apart.
Number 5 is the head to jacket water seal that often breaks down and causes water to leak out.

I suspect a failure of a piston or rings and as a consequence lots of crankcase pressure the may have blown the liner "O" rings (this is where the oil and water get mixed when that happens)

Or it may be a cracked head

First thing to do is get a compression test done.

Maybe the next thing to do is to contact Elite for a re-con engine

There have been lots of threads on here re stripping and rebuilding WBX engines.
It's a big job that can go wrong too.
If it turns out you need to research this, shout out and I will put up links to them for ya.

Most of all, wishing you good luck, and if you finish up needing a new motor, I hope it doesn't stretch you too much, esp as Christmas is nearly here

Mind you, there have been a couple of WBX engines for sale on here recently.
If ness, Billy739 often comes across them ( he sold me a good one a year ago )

cheers mate think I will try to rebuild this one depending on what's wrong, it was a new engine 2.5 years ago and ran sweet no leaks and regularly serviced it's even still shiny , well was till this morning gonna see a mechanic mate this afternoon see if he can do a compression test for me

Links to stripping and rebuild would be great mate I can print them out for mechanic to look at and see if he wants the job

His problem started out a little different to yours, but the strip and re-build is the same as what you might be facing. Do read it all, though it is a long thread, as there is important stuff in there re studs breaking etc.

The first hurdle is getting the exhaust off without breaking the bolts / studs.
Plus Gas, (not WD40) and heat are my tips there !

cant help apart from adding comisserations, if you do buy an engine off Billy who is in Gloucester I could get it to at least Worcester for you or perhaps a bit further.
