Hi,

Thinking of going to Ross on Wye for a couple of nights next week. Any recommendations?

Hi i live about not far from here Ross on wye would be a bit further away than that more like 3/4 hour id say yr rite about the hippys there crazy but its a nice area Hay on wye is only 2 minutes down the road

Its 34 miles and 1 hour 8 minutes according to my autoroute, and often slower I live in Hereford and have friends in both directions so I know the roads. Its also rather expensive, works out at £16 a night for two people with a hookup. Why is that so called "hippy" or alternative things are regarded as a licence to charge? I dont know if the sites at symonds Yat are shut yet.
Although if you are going for the climbing the limestone is not good, far too polished and over used.
You could ask Synchrodoug, he has a long drive lol.
If you are rally stuck I could maybe ask friends with rural properties near Hereford.

Mmmm...you are correct. Its further than I remember. We canoed from the Hollybush campsite to Ross earlier this year, and had a lift back. We seemed to be back in a jiffy. I suppose its a fair point about costs, mind you, sitting round a big fire in the woods is a great night. Its a shame that its so rare for sites to allow fires these days.

Cheers all. I'll try the hippy one - log fires in all that.

Theres a place down near Llanthony that allows fires and is very cheap too, cant remember the name of it but will find out if you want.
There another place up near barmouth that allows fires and has a stream running through the site.
The ones that allow fires are much rarer now, probably insurance.
Like canada for that, lots of camp fires there and lots of places to camp for free without hassle.

Great area, did you go and how was it
