I love the beach and primarily bought my camper to go on surfing trips. In peoples experience, are there many beaches where you can get away with bit of wild camping? I'm guessing places where you cant surf would be more likely because they'll be frequented less but thats ok. I just fancy a remote beach camping trip!

I know i've seen some pictures that jed took, think it might have been Wales?

Hi!! Hells Mouth beach in Abersoch, Wales is good. You get a few vans camping there in the car park in the winter months, not sure if u could get away with it in summer though. ANd its a great surf beach when its on too!!

Can't suggest any I am afraid.

Gill and I have looked for ages for a beach in Lancashire or N. Wales were we could stop over, we want to hear the waves as we sleep !! ( well not actually when we are asleep as you shouldn't be hearing things then, but you know what I mean )

Fantastic beach on the Dovey Estuary, south side opposite Aberdovey. You can drive right onto the beach, just make sure that you park above the strandline!

thanks for the suggestions guys, the nearer London the better for a quick getaway.. Anyone ever found a good beach stop off in Suffolk or Essex?

What's the surf like at Abbotsbury then? Never been there or heard much about it. What is the name of the beach on that side?

Dorset could work on longer trips away.

I'm going to try and find somewhere within 2 hours from London - a challenge I know but often cant get away till 7.30pm at earleirst on a friday if we're heading off for a standard 2 day weekend break. been to devon and cornwal a few times in this situation and however you look at it it's not that fun arriving at 1am after a busy week and a 6 hour drive!

Was in that car park about 3 weeks ago (top link) - Chesil beach right in front. All year touring park about 10 mins from there. Van with elec hook up one night £12.50.

I don't know where you might be able to freecamp, but The Witterings are good for surf and close to London, well closer than most anyway.

Which leads me onto a question of my own. What are the laws about camping overnight? When does just parking become living somewhere? Is there a law you are breaking if you just stop in a layby on a coast road and happened to be parked there for a couple of days?

The carpark at Bracklesham next to the witterings seems to be a popular place to wild camp but its a bit carparky for my liking. Plus my other halfs grandad lives facing it.

Isn't there a charge for using that car park? Every time I've been down there has been someone at the gate. Do they stop charging at some point through the winter?
