Can anyone who has an EGT gauge make me some recommendations on what to buy and where to buy it.
Not interested in and Jap style lit up like a xmas tree style gauges. Just want something simple looking, reading in centigrade.
Ive found this

Does anyone have any experience with 'Stack gauges' ? Are they any good, anything out there that's better/cheaper?
What you got?

Hi Al,
Syncrosimon has a Stack lambda gauge and it looks great. Well made with good fittings and instructions.
It was a 52mm item too..

That's very sensible of you Al, improving the brakes before harnessing more horses!

Got an autogauges in the yellow one and a vdo one in the blue one, both 52mm. VDO wasn't cheap but it matches the rest of the clocks and it came from the other side of the world, autogauges one was from ebay for about £70 but then that was from Malyasia!
Both of them work and they are easy to read being that the increments are 1 through to 10. so when you are sitting at 5 on the gauge - your running at 500deg C.
Just fitted an air temp gauge for inlet temps - just out of curiosity though. At the mo it's at 33/35 deg C (not being slow), we think it's good but not quite sure yet...

Hi
Sorry to show my ignorance, but what exactly do these gauges do?
I know they measure the temperature but what does this mean and can you alter the running temp?

The gauge shows you what temperature the exhaust gases exiting your engine are. So if, for example, you were driving up a long incline in top gear wondering whether you should just slow down change gear and cut your engine some slack or just keep your foot planted all the way to the top on the hill. You could look at how hot your engine (not your coolant) is running and that will make your decision for you.
I am looking at making my turbo shove more air in, and fiddling with my injection pump to make it deliver more fuel. All this results in more heat which is why i'm fitting a chargecooler and an Exhaust temp gauge, so i can keep an eye on it all.

Did you manage to find a VDO one in Centigrade then? I can only find VDO in Farenheit so far. (Bloody VDO boost gauges all seem to be in Bar also)
Would prefer to buy in the UK if i can, but i have been looking at some options in the US..
Interesting to hear your inlet temp, i must admit once i've got my chargecooler rigged up i'm going to be very intrigued myself. I got a 'auctionsite' deal on a 3core Pace unit with Pace radiator/pump/header tank, so i'm hoping to see very cool inlet temps. Ive seen some VW data sheets for a TDi engine with and without intercooler and the differences at high revs is just unbelievable!! The intercooler pretty much keeps the inlet temp constant!

ive not put a egr valve on a aaz, but in my synro i got best results (preformance wise) from 3.25 trns on the turbo accuator and 2.75 of the lower ajuster screw on the fuel pump (the one underthe plastic cover/seal) on the outer edge nearest the timing belt cover but i had to turn to throtle arm back a spline to getthe idle back down

most of the info hereis for the JX 1.6TD but wrks the same on the AAZ engines
http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=21600.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (for uping pump)
http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=21636.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ( for reseting idle after uping pump)
ive taken a aaz out to 147bhp at the wheels in a syncro (with prop off) i blew it up after giving it a little more

the next aaz going to be NO2 injected wen i find a good un to put in syncro, if i cant find oneone going to go to 2.8 diahtsu diesel from a mk2 fourtrak (these can be wound outto 180bhb safly in a fourtrak) , it will take 3 ish days to do the conversion but time well spent me thinks
Thereis always the option of adding 30% power with nitrous, i wont go hgher than that into a diesel (due to having to inject to much gas with it resulting in bore wash),
