Gas not working in freezing temps

As many of you know butane gas won't work in freezing conditions where as propane does! But in an Autohomes conversion there is not enough room for a propane bottle in the gas cupboard so is there a solution to keeping the butane (usually blue bottle) warm ie quilted bag etc?

Tim
the gas wants heat from the surrounding air to vaporise.
so a quilt would not help
If you can, extend the pipe to allow it to live somewhere in the cabin.

or a propane bottle outside, again with an extended pipe from the cupboard.

just my ideas :D

I extended my pipe to fit the propane bottle in the bottom of the wardrobe

thats 4 amps and hour, so if you need to put it on below 4 deg c wich could be most of the day, thats a lot of power to keep ya gas warm!!! Plus might not be the best thing to have 12v wrapped wround a gas bottle !

Hiya Tim, I know you're not afraid to invest in your van, there's only one way to do this properly and I'm sure you know what it is. I believe you have Mr Shaw's number

Ok then as my gas pipe to my gas tank is long so i would be able to place tank inside cab area then providing the temp was above 4c when i first turned on propex it would keep it self warm! That would work would'nt it?

Yeah thats an idea! Its just along way to go and eventually i will have it converted to lpg so that would be an option in the future.

Sorry I thought the van AND the 4wd were both on gas, a leisure tank is definately an investment though, especially if you have a Propex, camp and cook a lot.

Ian is right Tim. Underslung tank is well cheap to fill up and if your running a propex on small gas bottles it will cost you loads. Plus in the summer you can plug a gas bbq in it from the outside, or a patio heater outside in the winter, or what ever you like really but they are cheap to fill up and you will free up some room inside were your gas bottle was.

If you want to put a propane bottle outside you could plug it into a BBQ type external gas point, and providing everything was plumbed up correctly there wouldnt be a problem, then when you convert to gas the outside point becomes BBQ feed or has been suggested, patio heater feed.

I had this problem so I switched to propane. It's freezing point much lower than butane. You just need the bottle and a new regulator. I run everything in my van on Propane. No probs

Doh!! Why didn`t I think of that space for me Propex and fit a gas tank like you say 8) 8)

Only had the Propex 4 years     and not fitted it due to lack of right place/space :?

So can you fit your own tanks or is it a professional registered jobby??

Anyone got a spare tank

Take a look at http://www.gasure.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for fitting an lpg leisure tank. :)

Ok, so being totally new to all of this and slowly picking things up as we go...... am I right in thinking based on the above, that its not a good idea to leave the blue gas bottles in the van over the winter? If so, I'd better move um quick before the snow settles in!

you can leave them there the gas just wont flow. If you think about it everyone leaves the bbq gas bottles in the cold shed over winter don't they.
