Right then........ i Had a 1.6d which ran but i was told the engine was kaput, so after a lot of talking to people i got an AEF 1.9d from a polo. Got it in and it wouldnt start and was told the injector pump has an immobiliser on it as we couldnt get it to work. Wired it up as per others here but just got no joy out of it. SO i have put a bosch pump on it and managed to get it running, however it will only tick over on full throttle. I was wondering if its because i havent changed the injectors cause if i remember the lucas pump is low pressure and the bosch high. So do i need to put the injectors from my 1.6 in or do i need to get another pump from a polo. And has anyone ever heard of them having an immobiliser on. Sorry to go on but getting really f**ked off with it and i have got to do the head gasket as well because its pressurising the cooling system.

Hi Jim
firstly comisserations, been there where something is just a frustrating time and money pit with no joy in sight.
Right down to business. Only way I know of injector pump imobilisation is on the electric stop switch, unless the thing has an ecu coded imobiliser but surely thats not the case is it? Therefore ASSUME fuel was not getting through and wondering if knackered stop switch or some weird voltage requirement which can possibly be sorted via a laptop power supply or similar.
Are you 100% certain that the cooling system is pressurising cos of the head gasket? these things can require a lot of messing and bleeding, best look at wiki. Re the 'imobiliser' have you asked in alternative engine forum?
I believe you are corect on the low pressure high pressure situation regarding mismatching of pump and injectors.
HTH, really trying to spray a few ideas and alternative thoughts at you in the hope that a solution may spring up, hope that you are nearly there and it all gets sorted. I have friends with a VW specialist garage I can ask on imobiliser if nothing else comes up. Get back to me with a year and things and I will ask if no joy elsewhere.

Thanks for that, not sure of the year of the car as i bought the engine out of the car. I was under the impression that the polo didnt have an immobiliser but i might have been wrong  . I have seen some people say about them being on the pump but not really sure, and them being on later models only. pretty certain the coolant is pressurising as i filled the system up and ran the van for about 2-3 mins and there was water coming out of the overflow on the first coolant bottle( not the exspansion bottle if you know what i mean.) cheers for any advice.

Jim

I've posted a reply to your post in the Brickyard. It's a bit long so I won't repeat it here.
