Hi all
Can anyone tell me if this is worth buying for a 1985 caravelle witha 1.9dg engine.
I only ask because on amazon i'm looking at £60-£75 so I don't want to waste money.
Thanks

If you find the Haynes too sketchy then yes although its also described as the 'workshop manual' and available elsewhere for a fraction of that.

Well mine cost about £60 but I can't remember where I ordered it from. The full description is:
Volkswagen Vanagon Official Factory Repair Manual: 1980-1991
Including Diesel, Syncro, and Camper
by Volkswagen of America
Softcover, 8 3/8 in. x 11 in.
1,388 pages
2,295 illustrations and diagrams
Volkswagen Part No. LPV 800 148
ISBN-13: 978-0-8376-0336-0
Price: $99.95
as shown on the Bentleymanuals.com website. Note that the key word is Vanagon so be sure to mention this on your search. You could email Bentleymanuals in America and see if they have a UK destributor. I have to say the Bentley manual knocks spots off the Haynes manual which I believe is only based on the crewcab anyway.
Good luck
Wolfie

Is see the Bentley manual covers the Westy campers, but does anyone know if it covers removal of the Westy furniture i.e. sequence to remove, how the various items are connected together etc.

The Bentley manual is a compendium of official VW factory repair manuals. These are the official drawings, the official torque settings, the official procedures (open this first, grease that on re-assembly) etc ...well worth it, if only to give to your mechanic as a guide when you hand your pride and joy in for work you can't or won't attempt yourself.

There are a few caveats:
It is the US version and therfore there are some differences on engine settings (due to different emission laws etc), some quite substantial differnces on electrics (Vanagons came with lots of goodies we Europeans were deprived of), the Diesel part does not cover the turbo version (not available in US) and the Syncro part does not cover the TD Syncro nor does it have info about front differential locks (neither could be had in the US). Obviously there is no RHD specific info in it either.

Sorry I didn't think it was illegal, as the brickyard forum has it in there, in the 'useful treads' sections.

Hi again,
I've managed to download a manual that is just short of 1000 pages so I guess this is the right one.
Now I just have to go through and pick the relevent bits to print otherwise my printer is likely to experience a painful death.

Thanks to everyone who sent messages regarding this :ok :ok
