Hoses

Hello all,

I was persuing the discounts section of the website...and came across the silicon hose supplier offering a bit of a discount!!

Has anyone used these hoses....my engine bay is a nightmare of mismatched hoses (its a miracle anything circulates in the right direction!) - it is a late engine grafted to early waterworks, with LPG heating pipes for good measure!! Tis a bit heath robinson in there. But, it works.

However, one day it won't  Might be today, tomorrow or on the way to a meet.

So, if I can find the internal diameter of pipes etc, has anyone used silicone hoses for their coolant? Hoseworld http://www.hoseworld.com/acatalog/autom ... _hose.htmldo the same thing - they call theirs radiator hoses, and are a little cheaper than the performance stuff. So, what should we be looking for in a silicone hose.

Best still, they come in all different colours......I knows I don't look in there much....but would be fun to have red hoses in the red van......might even splash out on some pretty braided petrol hose.

In light of the fact that some are getting hard to locate.....is silicone the way forward?

Oh - have a look at the flexsil in the automotive range....would this be any good for some of the varied kinks I have in the engine?

So many questions....so little time.....

Over to you who know.....

Well, the company in the link on discounts answer queries really quickly - I asked some questions and got the following response...

The straight hoses can flex, but the amount depends on the bore size (which is the internal diameter). The bigger the hose, the less it will bend. If you let me know what size of hose you need, maybe send us a sketch of how much it needs to bend, we will be able to advise you.

Normal coolant hoses will only get up to 140°C, unless they run very close to a heat source such as the manifold or a turbo, so I don’t think you will have any problems with temperature.

(still waiting to see if anyone has used them.....how else did they get on the discount page?)
