Hi this is my first post so first Hi everyone!

I have a 1983 1.9 petrol T25 sometimes when I start her up she turns over very slow even if battery fully charged. Other times turns over fine. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so do you know how to fix

I have had this problem, almost as if the engine is hesitating to start. I fitted new starter motor. Worth a thought.

before you buy a starter check the connections on the starter and clean them.
also check the earth connection from the battery and the one under the van gearbox to chassis clean and smear with vaseline.
if you do fit starter dont forget to replace the bush in the gearbox its only an oilite bearing and prone to wear,had a beetle with starter problems and it was the bush that caused the problem.

Ith mine it was the thick cable that comes from the solenoid to the motor, it was worn nearly through. Fixed that and its fine.

The motor did finaly give up the ghost, but I found most bosch starters to be the same. All I did was go to the scrappies with a tape measur, bought one with the same size motor part (length and diameter) off an Audi (dont ask what model as I dont know).
Got it home and simply swapped the end casting over with the old one. Cost me a tenner and works perfect

I use to have a bay and I know people use to do to a modification which put a relay on the igition switch to cut down the length of wire between the battery and starter, does this need to be done on the type 25.

Its the same thing really several corroded terminals leading to voltage loss, fixing these conections or a relay will do the job.

m8 had the same problem was lack of fuel were the main fuel pipe goes to the carb there is a witches hat filter his was blocked cleand up sorted.

I had this problem with my bay actually. I pulled out the starter, replaced the brushes, cleaned the inside of the motor thoroughly and removed all the black dust, of which there was loads, greased it up, cleaned the comutator and when I put it back in it worked perfectly and never a minutes hassle off that. Oh and I sanded the spade terminals too.
