On a petrol van the starter motor bush is fitted to the bellhousing and supports the front of the starter motor shaft.
The diesel has the bush integral with the starter motor housing.
Look on wiki you'll find procedure for fitting it, it's not the easiest job but worth doing cos if old one is worn/damaged or missing then new motor won't last long.

Hi, I have just changed my starter motor and the wiki is spot on how to di it... I used it to the letter and did fine.. and I'm an idiot
Now, you must do as the wiki says though, soak the bush overnight and make sure you have a tap and die set to get the old bush out... it is a REAL bugger, but the tap and die trick does eventually work. Oh, and it took me ages to find where the second bolt holding the starter on was... it is in the engine bay at the BACK of the bay ONE third of the way from the right below and behind a big black pipe!!
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Helga i also wondered about the top bolt as i removed and cleaned the old unit to see if that would get some more life out of her, its a bugger to find but its easy peasy once you know where it is, i shall follow the wiki to a tee

Yup. That one got me too. Took me longer to find it than it did to take the motor off.

getting the old bush out can be a bit of a devil as you struggle to see it but if the m12 tap doesnt work you can split it with a sharp screwdriver and a few taps of a small hammer then squash it inwards and it will fall out
