What's this for on my Swedish Doka...............

Looks like a euro mains socket.

Block heater

Have you got a socket somewhere on the exterior with two pins that accepts a female two pin plug.
The Swedes often hook their vehicles up to the mains at night and this may be a socket where you could plug in an electric heater.
There is probably an electric block as Simon stated.

No, no socket on the outside. (unless its really hidden away)
If it every gets dry I crawl under to see where the wiring goes.

Hi ,

This is the internal socket for the the electric heater. You probaly have a WBX engine, so of you crawl under the van you will see on the right handside of the pulley the small waterpipe , out of that waterpipe you see the connection for the electric wires for pre-heating the cooling system.

There should be an external socket, often a big plug with 3 pins , if not they have removed it. You will either have a hole under the right tail light or a hole on the lower frontgrill. This is were in 90% of the cases the external socket came out and was mounted on the bumper.

Oyes, the company who made these systems is DEFA, a norwegian company. An other company is called CALTEX but have never seen these often on the T3/T25.

Correct I had a bloke from Norway tell me this too. I have one in my van.

TD block heater goes into block in lieu of one of the core plugs and there's often an external plug at the rear as well as one on front bumper

Hi Folks - all true - I work for a Finnish company and visit regularly and they plug there cars into the mains when the get to work and home to stop them freezing in winter.

However one point is inaccurate - I have one on my 16 and it was a diesel from birth albeit now with a TDi instead of a JX

My Swedish Doka has the small 3 pin socket on the back valance and the Pre-heater on the engine as well as the 2 pin power plug in the cab.

Does anybody know where I can get the 3 pin power lead or plug to try out the engine heater as we already have ice in the mornings here in Scotland.............

I know this is a very old post, but thought I would add to it as I too have one fitted to my Syncro, and it comes with the internal mains socket too.

OK, so those who've got a Scandinivian van, have any of you had an electric pie heater fitted under one of the front seats ?

Since I heard about these from CJ it's become a minor obsession of mine.. Apparently they have strict rules that workers are entitled to hot lunches, so many commercials have these food heaters. I found one of the Scandinavian T3 brochures off vwpix.org has some mentioned, as a factory option for that market, like the Vindic canopies.

Me too I have also heard stories of them being fitted under the rear seat on a Doka too

Have yet to see one of those though. Guess most have been taken out through the years..

Sadly there isn't one fitted in my Syncro, but there will soon be a timed Defa 1000w cabin heater, and inline battery charger also on a timer, so when plugged in to our mains, 2-3 hours before using the vehicle in -25 conditions, the cabin will be warm, so too will the heater due to the Defa element heating the coolant.
