Exhaust system

Can anyone help me with this, what I'm guessing is a very simple question. I am learning quickly spending time under or in the van, but this is all new to me. My exhaust has 2 flexible air pipes fitted to it, which supply warm air to something this is what im not sure of . The problem i have , is i have been offered a newish exhaust which although seems an exact match does not have this hose connection facility .What i would like to know is what exactly do they do and are they needed ? I would love to fit this stainless exhaust ,as mines fit to fall apart but i would hate to cause a problem. I know it came off an engine like mine and i could never afford it new, so am hopping for a bit of reassurance i guess.
Many thanks
Andy

these pipes are part of the cold engine running assistance.
Warm air from around the exhaust is sucked into the airbox to pre heat the intake air for very cold weather.

I rid myself of this years ago.
