Have seen 45, 65, 90 amp alternators listed for diesel.

What's the right one for a JX?

Provided that it physically fits ie. pulley aligns correctly, the choice is yours. 45A is probably too small for a JX with heater plugs and cold weather starting, 65A sounds just about right for normal use, 90A is only really needed where you have a couple of heavily used leisure batteries as well as the starting battery. If you fit the largest alternator it will allow future electrical upgrades etc.

Van out of action and at garage. Mechanic struggling to identify right unit from the motor factors. Not really practical to get loads in and see what fits.

Just trying to find out what standard fitment is for a 1989 JX 1600 TD and where to get from. Anywhere cheaper than GSF??

65 amp would be standard

65 amp is standard and , in my opinion, enough.
I run one and have a two battery set up with no problems.
