Windscreen bottle bolts - undoing of

Can anyone tell me what's on the other side of the windscreen water bottle bolts to keep them on ? The bolts turn ok with a 10mm spanner and two of them have loosened off a bit. The inner one turns but is not coming undone. Can't get in there to see if there's a bolt or what on the other side. Don't really want to resort to cutting off the plastic lugs like I've read on here. Would prefer to cut off the bolts if it gets to that. Need to get in there and see what's happening. Water just comes straight through.

IIRC it's a captive (or in your case NOT) nut, you'll have to cut the head off and once the bottles away replace the nut with a rivnut or similar.

Try levering under the head so as to apply tension to the gismo which is turning at the back. Also if the thread is stripped on the bolt you may move it out onto a good bit of thread for removal. Otherwise it is like the man sais

Some Mercedes anchor nuts fit the bill... they just have to clip deep enough into the flange. GSF also had a few similar ones in their box of bits.

Thanks Wolfie,

Now i know what's on the other end will have a go at your leverage idea, or pulling down with some mole grips.

Cheers

They are captive by means of a U shaped flimsy clip on the edge of the member - the clip breaks so the nut rotates - result = angle grinder. ( just been at mine)

as always

when refitting use plenty of grease!

that way it will all be nice to undo next time!

One step up from Spire clips, which are generally for interior use. These are generally made a good degree better. he Merc equivs are in fact, heavily cad plated.

Once installed, a good idea to smear a good layer of waxoyl or grease over the whole shebang.

Those water bottle ones aren't too bad to remove, but the rear ally splash guard and some of the Syncro bash plate ones are right piguns!
