Does it stay or does it go?

The tank is out and I'm taking the opportunity to inspect the 'forbidden area' for rust, so the soundproofing material has all been removed. Fortunately there's no rust, so a quick spray of waxoyl should do it. The question is; should I put the soundproofing back (it'll be a fiddle 'cos the bits of wire that were holding it on have come adrift now so an alternative means of fixing will have to be found) or do I bin it (potential source of corrosion) and soundproof the interior where there is much less chance of rust?
Ahh, decisions, decisions!

I sprayed that area with black gooey stuff but I put back the sound deadening. The wire holding it in fell to bits on mine as well but I used stainless welding rod to fix it all back in. There is one thing I know and one thing I dont know about the job. I dont know if it is all still in place and if the fix worked and I know Im not going back in there to find out!!

To rust or not to rust?
To be quiet or not to be quiet?

Lather it with protection (that doesn't dry) what ever your going to do.
